      The article discusses business and technological innovation originating in Silicon Valley, California. The author reflects on international attempts to duplicate the innovative atmosphere of Silicon Valley in places such as Sophia Antipolis, France and University Town, Shenzhen, China. Emphasis is given to Silicon Valley's growth resulting from a large investment of public and private capital, government noninterference, the presence of Stanford University, and availability of open land within commuting distance from San Francisco, California.
