- Abstract:
The article discusses the representation of rural working-class clothing by 19th century photographer Henry Peach Robinson in Great Britain. It describes Robinson's composite images "Bringing Home the May," "When the Day's Work is Done," and "Picture Making by Photography." It then examines the ways in which Robinson interpreted the economic conditions of the British working class through his photography. Other subjects under discussion include the transition of the rural working class to urban settings, the changes in clothing and dress in urban areas, and the book "The Elements of a Pictorial Photograph."
