    • Abstract:
The article reports that depression seems to elevate the risk for diabetes mellitus, but the role of antidepressants is unclear. In a study of 2,243 adults who developed diabetes after starting antidepressant therapy, long-term treatment with venlafaxine, amitripty-line, fluvoxamine , and paroxetine did confer an increased risk of diabetes. However, shorter treatment periods, and the extended use of citalopramsertraline or fluoxetine were not associated with an elevated risk.
