The article focuses on advertising executives who have left senior positions at large advertising agencies to function as entrepreneurs by either creating new agencies or leaving advertising as a profession. Gerry Graf, former creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi, who left that firm in April, 2010 to start an independent agency, is used as an example of the motivations executives have in leaving agencies, particularly the need for creative independence.
