- Abstract:
The article discusses how human beings are evolving. According to the author, an analysis of the human genome suggests that human beings have not evolved the way biologists would have expected. An overview of early Homo sapiens, who spread out from Africa 60,000 years ago is presented, including the environmental challenges they faced. Topics include an overview of a hypothesis by scientists which states that the inability of early humans to overcome challenges with prehistoric technology would lead to novel genetic mutations spreading rapidly through different populations by natural selection. A discussion of the results of an analysis of the human genome, which revealed that most detectable natural selection happened slowly, is presented. INSET: Selection Signal.
