    • Abstract:
The article reports on the damages done by the strikes of by longshoremen at various container ports in the U.S. in September 1977. It notes that the strike has caused several problems, including the increase of unemployment in Puerto Rico, the laying off of some 200 workers of Ideal Toy Co., and the display props Carson Pirie Scott & Co.'s two-week promotion of Italian wares have never arrived. However, it cites that the strike has not affectd big retailers as imported goods were ordered and delivered long before the strike began, and some importers shifted away from container ships to break-bulk carriers. It states that negotiations between shippers and the International Longshoremen's Association has resumed in November 1977 amid signs of an early settlement.
