    • Abstract:
The article discusses the salability and importance of air bags in providing automobile safety in the U.S. It offers an overview of a ruling which requires the installation of air bags to all U.S. cars. It states that there is an estimated 12,000 lives saved a year if the ruling will be carried out. However, Secretary of Transportation William T. Coleman Jr. has opposed to the idea of universal installation, instead he asked the car companies to integrate air bags in cars for the next two model years. Moreover, it notes the unpopularity of air bags based on sales experiments conducted by General Motors Corp.
