- Abstract:
The article offers information on the causes, effects and impact of anorexia nervosa to individuals' health in the U.S. Anorexia is a bizarre emotional disorder affecting 80% of teenage women in effort to please their mothers and mothers. Majority of anorectics believe that they are fat, thus they eat less food and maintain high level of physical exercise to keep off weight. Researchers found that the disorder is purely psychological and young women become anorectics for fear of sexuality, while some therapists consider the diseases as a symbolic oral rebellion of troubled and overcontrolling parents. According to Dr. Hilde Bruch, professor of psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine, anorectics associated slimness and achievements as ways of reassuring themselves.
