    • Abstract:
The article reports on the dangers of addiction to prescription medication. Examples of prescription drugs which can become addictive, such as Oxycontin, Vicodin, and Hydrocodone are described, and the increase in opioid consumption per person in the U.S. from 1997 to 2006 is discussed. Anecdotes about the experiences of people who became addicted to such drugs are presented. It is noted that powerful painkillers are suitable for terminal cancer patients, who would be in agony without them, and in such cases the risks of addiction are not relevant.
