The article discusses a report within the issue regarding research which demonstrates how β-catenin signaling, which is a well known process in development, balances tolerance and immunity through the control of dendritic cell (DC) function. Topics include a brief overview of immune tolerance and human immune response against pathogen-associated antigens. Also discussed are two processes of immune tolerance, central tolerance and peripheral tolerance, their interaction with T cells, and how dendritic cells limit the responses to self antigens through the activation of the Wnt signaling pathway.
