    • Abstract:
The article presents a time line that recounts intolerance in the U.S., dating back to colonial times. Among the incidents noted are a call to expel Jewish refugees in 1654 by director-general of New Netherland Peter Stuyvesant, a charter written for colonial Georgia in 1732 that prohibits Catholicism, and the burning of African-American churches in Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana, during Reconstruction in 1866.
