- Abstract:
In this article the author examines the meaning and usage of the word "audacity." He notes that for some individuals the word connotes boldness and hope while to others the word signifies recklessness and a rejection of ordained hierarchies by those who refuse their place in a pre-determined order. A number of writings on audacity are examined including "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream," by U.S. president Barack Obama, "Moral Grandeur and Spiritual Audacity," by Abraham Joshua Heschel, and "The Road to Audacity: Being Adventurous In Life and Work," by Stephen Carter and Jeremy Kourdi.
