    • Abstract:
Rousseau always associated nature with women, while at the same time denying the feminine sex the faculty of reasoning and, consequently, governing. For Rousseau, family and the need of direct affective bonds among those who lived together were a consequence of the coming of sedentary society. With these changes, Rousseau observes, the inequality between men and women began to take shape, as labor division was based on sex. Despite some differences, Rousseau's views on women's role in society strongly influenced Robespierre, who during the Revolution ruthlessly sought to impose the principle that the public space is exclussive of men, and the private, domestic, one is that of women. • Abstract:
