      The article comments on a previous article by literary scholar Anke-Marie Lohmeier with the title "What is actually modern?" in the "Internationales Archiv für Sozialgeschichte der deutschen Literatur" 32 (2007). The author discusses nomenclature and dating problems with Lohmeier's analysis of modernism in aesthetics as opposed to societal matters. He proposes a different approach to the relation of literary studies and social science as divided into epochal structures of modernity rather than a simple dichotomy between "modern" and "anti-modern."
