- Abstract:
The article offers information concerning the relationship among reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial dysfunction disease and aging. It notes that a high level of ROS and a low level of antioxidants lead to oxidative stress which causes damage to the mitochondia and surrounding tissue. It also mentions that while the role of the mitochondria is to generate energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), it also participates in initiating cell death.
