- Abstract:
The article relates that a report from the shipping research division of DVB Bank of Germany has concluded that Panamax container ships with up to about 5,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in capacity will reach supply-demand equilibrium within two years. Some of the factors that will drive the equilibrium include rising trade volume, a lull in shipbuilding and size limitations imposed by the Panama Canal's existing locks. It relates the growth in rates for 4,250-TEU Panamax ships. Information is presented on Panamax charter and freight rates.
