This article presents information about botanical artist Mary Granville Pendarves Delany, usually referred to as Mrs. Delany. Mrs. Delany lived from 1700 to 1788 and is best remembered for her drawings and ceramic work with shells. Her most famous work is a dress that she wore when she was presented to the British court on 1741. The black dress was embroidered with 200 different flowers that were stitched with great detail and accuracy. Some question whether Mrs. Delany would have had the time to create the masterpiece, but it is agreed that the flowers were designed by her.
