The Global Battle Over New Rules for Banks.

The article focuses on the Basle Committee on Banking Supervision, an international organization of central bankers and financial regulators which sets guidelines for banking regulations in developed countries. The committee is developing a so-called Basel III set of rules requiring higher levels of bank capital in response to the global financial crisis. Objections by banks to some of the proposals being discussed by the committee are considered.
