    • Abstract:
The article discusses the role of Mormon women in war work during World War II in Manti County, Utah. It describes pressure from the official leaders in the Church of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) against participation by women in war jobs, the Reliance Manufacturing Company and its role in the hiring of women to produce such war goods as parachutes, and the role of the periodical "Relief Society Magazine" in establishing women's right to work within the Mormon context. Other subjects under discussion include the tensions between theologies of motherhood and war work, the Parachute Company of Utah, and the role of nursery schools in allowing mothers to work away from home.
