    • Abstract:
This article is a demographic and social historical examination of the property-owning families of the city of Kraków (Poland) in the mid-19th century. Using data found in the 1848-1852 Kraków municipal land register (cadaster) and the 1857 census, the author examines who owned which properties in Kraków during this period. Second, he details how property ownership was broken down along religious denomination. Third, he examines (as far as records allow) the age, gender, marital status, family size/type, and socio-economic status of Kraków's mid-19th century landlords (accounting, wherever possible, for their religious homogeneity and heterogeneity as well). Of note is the fact that women property owners are unusually well-represented in these statistics.
