Sartre, Israel and the Arabs: "emotion-driven determination.". (English)
    • Abstract:
The article discusses the philosemitism of French existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. It describes the ways in which Sartre's support for Israel was driven by emotional or sentimental notions arising from the Jewish Holocaust, the subjective and ahistorical basis for Sartre's support for the Israeli state, and Sartre's ignorance of Arab history and culture. Other subjects under discussion include Sartre's understanding of the Six-Day War, his political opinions for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and Jewish nationalism.
