    • Abstract:
The article discusses the findings of a research which validated risk score for in-hospital mortality in patients with heart failure from the American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines-Heart Failure program. The identified independent predictors of in-hospital death were age, admission systolic blood pressure, blood urea nitrogen, heart rate, sodium, the presence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and non-African American race. Results showed that the predicted risk of in-hospital death varied by greater than 24-fold across deciles.
