The article presents information on HIV infection and nephropathy. HIV-1 usually enters the host through the genital mucosa during sexual intercourse. It states that lymphoid tissue works as the major reservoir for HIV. It mentions that several tests are used to diagnose HIV including viral load, serologic tests and rapid HIV tests. HIV-associated nephropathy (HFVAN) is a renal syndrome that occurs in HIV-I seropositive patients and is characterized by renal dysfunction and heavy proteinuria.
