- Abstract:
The article presents various medical updates. It mentions that from January 1, 2002 to June 9, 2006, 169 recipients of orthoptic liver transplants at the University of Chicago developed a total of 104 post operative intraabdominal infections within 60 days after transplantation. It notes that evidence show upon genetic analysis that the chimpanzee parasite Plasmodium reichenowi was the closest known relative of the Plasmodium falciparum which causes malaria. It cites that three major groups of HIV-1 have been known "M", "N" and "O" with "M" being dominant, but researchers have identified a fourth group of HIV-1 derived from retroviruses from gorillas "SIVgor."
