    • Abstract:
The article presents advice and recommendations for using evidence-based practice (EBP) methods when designing instructional systems for knowledge workers. A model of instructional system design based on EBP is presented. EBP is described as a useful alternative to relying on subject matter experts and untested theories. The importance of relying on rigorous studies which have been published in reputable journals is stressed. A comparison is drawn between the use of EBP by professions which center on human services, and the use of research and development (R&D) by manufacturing concerns.
