    • Abstract:
The article reports on the status of the Malaysian economy. The country's economy posted an 8.5 per cent growth in 2000 and foreign investment has remained strong. Despite these developments, the country is experiencing a slowdown in growth. For four successive quarters, the nation's economic momentum has been decelerating. This slowdown in economic growth is primarily attributed to the political woes faced by the country. Add to this, local companies are becoming more cost-conscious and are cutting down their expansion plans, which results in reduced demand for labor.
