    • Abstract:
An essay is presented examining the standard arguments for a conception of academic freedom as it relates to the idea of balanced classrooms and pedagogy in college education. Particular attention is paid to exploring the more subtle threats to academic freedom that tend to go unaddressed in the wake of more obvious controversial issues. The underlying philosophical arguments behind freedom of speech and the "marketplace of ideas" are debated.
