- Abstract:
The article discusses a study which examined the effectiveness of laparoscopic uterosacral nerve ablation (LUNA) in patients diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain. The study included 487 women who were diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain for more than six months, with or without minimal endometriosis, adhesions or pelvic inflammatory disease. The types and level of pain, and the quality of life or each patient were assessed using a visual analogue scale and a genetic instrument. Study authors concluded that LUNA, compared to laparoscopy without pelvic denervation, did not result in improvements in pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia and quality of life.
