    • Abstract:
The article focuses on the declining number of audience for jazz in the U.S., based on a Survey of Public Participation in the Arts conducted by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in 2008. It is noted that a joint resolution declaring such a form of art to be a rare and valuable national treasure was approved by Congress in 1987. Some of the key findings of the study are outlined, including a drop in the number of adults who attended at least one jazz performance. The implications of the results for jazz are also discussed.
