    • Abstract:
The article presents the results of a matched case-control study that examined the findings of a preliminary analysis identifying risk factors for acanthamoeba keratitis (AK), a corneal infection common among users of contact lenses which may lead to vision loss or enucleation. The patients involved had symptom onset on or after January 1, 2005. Cases from microbiology laboratories and ophthalmology centers were also analyzed. The symptoms most frequently reported by the patients included pain, redness, sensitivity to light and sensation of a foreign body.
