- Abstract:
The author reflects on the risk associated with winning in the Afghan war by the U.S. He urges U.S. troops and development workers to get out of the bunker and fight the insurgents to protect the population. He adds that the U.S. should learn the lessons from the loss of Soviet Union in the war against the Afghan mujahidin guerrillas in the 1980s when it disregarded the countryside and roads. He stresses that fortifications, armor and movement restrictions will not help the Afghans feel safe.
