    • Abstract:
The article discusses the $7.2 billion in government spending on broadband access provided for by the 2009 U.S. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). These funds could represent up to half of all telecommunications spending in the U.S. during the next several years. Large phone companies may choose not to pursue ARRA funding directly, instead relying on indirect methods such as encouraging large customers to pursue ARRA grants. Wireless firms might seek ARRA funding for the construction of public-safety networks.
