- Abstract:
The author focuses on the H1N1 virus, also known as swine influenza, in Africa. The author recalls his response to a phone call he received from a journalist requesting information on the government of Malawi's preparation to deal with swine flu. The author states that the swine flu virus has genetic material that allow it to cross species. He notes that there are no African countries with cases of swine flu and discusses how the epidemic spread from Mexico, where it originated.
