EFFECT OF THREE EXTENDERS ON PRE AND POST-DEFROSTED MOTILITY OF EQUINE SEMEN.
    • Subject Terms:
    • Abstract:
In order to have different extenders for equine semen, ejaculates of eight creole horses were evaluated The evaluation criterion was the initial progressive motility. The extenders evaluated were: (Texas, Dimitropoulos-II and Burns), in a dilution 1:1, being the spermatic motility with each extender of: 71±.13%, 68±,16%, and 71±.13%. Subsequent to the dilution-freezing process, the following motilities were observed: Texas 64±13%, Dimitropoulos-II 61±17% and Burns 65±.16%. There was no a significant statistical difference (P<0.05) of the post-defrosted motility among the three extenders (Texas 31±,09%, Dimitropoulo-II 32±,10% and Borns 36±,10%). The correlation between the initial motility and the post defrosted one was of 0,8 in Burns, 0,7 in Dimitropoulos-II and 0,6 in Texas. It is considered that all the extenders evaluated can be used for the dilution of equine semen [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
