- Abstract:
The article discusses the emergence of personal genomic companies and the technology that underlies their services. Examples of these companies include firms such as 23andMe, Navigenics, and DNA Direct, all of which offer deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing services. These services can detect a person’s susceptibility to diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and prostate cancer. While the companies are developing, the science that allows for DNA testing still needs to evolve. INSETS: Spit and learn;Chances are;Haplotype in a haystack;Seeking genetic roots
