    • Abstract:
The article examines the cost and benefits of the past wars of the U.S. as well as their implications for national security. It explores the unintended consequences of the country's past wars, including the humiliating U.S. defeat in the Vietnam War which emboldened the Soviet Union's adventurism. It is suggested that the minor wars that the U.S. has waged from time to time had achieved positive outcomes as hoped. An analysis of the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq is also presented.
