    • Abstract:
An essay is presented on the politics of sainthood in Morocco. It highlights the Islamic model of sainthood that is grounded in the proximity of the saint to God, in what is determined in Arabic as walãya. It explores the particular brand of politicized sainthood that made a powerful theater of contestation and resistance through a position of critique in proximity to both political and religious.
