From the World to the Village and the Beginning to the End and After: Research Opportunities in Irish American History.

The article suggests some issues that should be covered in studying the history of Irish Americans. It argues that historians of Irish America have been much slower to focus on the local than the global, on the links between townlands, villages, parishes, and counties in Ireland with city neighborhoods, villages or rural towns in the U.S. It proposes that scholars should pay attention to local Irish origins or the immigration chains they use to move from towns and villages in the homeland to communities in the U.S.
