- Abstract:
A chapter of the book "Mexican American Theatre: Then and Now," edited by Nicolás Kanellos is presented, which highlights the role of theatre in Hispanic culture as a form of expression, cultural preservation and entertainment in the Southwest. The first play to be performed in the Southwest was in 1598, which was based on a group of people's adventures of exploring New Mexico. An overview is given of the role of Chicano theatre in the development of Hispanic theatre in the Southwest.
