    • Abstract:
The article seeks to dispel myths concerning the use of primary sources in elementary and secondary education. The relevance of primary source material to children's learning and to established curricula are examined and their availability and suitability for classroom use is explored. The incorporation of the diary of a ten-year-old girl written during the late 19th century into a history lesson is discussed and possible activities are presented. The author argues on behalf of using primary source material with children in order to promote deeper understanding of historical concepts, development of critical thinking skills, and appreciation for history.
