The article discusses attribution of sources in U.S. news stories. The importance for good journalism of getting direct quotations from identifiable sources is discussed, as is the opposing, undesirable trend toward vague, unattributed assertions. Unsourced reporting is identified as opening the reporter to charges of bias and sloppy journalism.
