The article profiles African American professor John Hope Franklin in the U.S. Franklin, who was born in 1915 in Rentiesville, Oklahoma, believed that historians are obliged, like himself, to become involved in the activism of his day. He encountered challenges of racism and segregation after earning a doctoral degree in history from Harvard University. The professor has also joined many historians in protesting racism and inequality in the country.
