    • Abstract:
The author comments on the importance of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention after orthopaedic surgery. He refers to the trial Regulation of Coagulation in Orthopaedic Surgery to Prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism published in the issue. The consequences of venous thromboembolism after orthopaedic surgery are examined, including the need for systemic anticoagulation and the physical limitations during recovery. Post-thrombotic syndrome due to VTE is also examined.
