COPYING NATURE'S ARCHITECTURE.

This piece describes the process of engineering complex tissue structures such as the lobules of the liver. Problems associated with the generation of intercellular communication mechanisms that can regulate the proliferation of differentiated cells in such tissue during the engineering process are noted. Liver and heart cells are used to illustrate these problems.
