- Abstract:
Objective. To demonstrate clinical use of silicon for frontalis suspension in a group of patients with moderate to severe palpebral ptosis and bad function of palpebral elevator muscle. Material and method. Twenty four patient and 31 eyelids were evaluated in a prospective longitudinal, descriptive cohort, analysing demographic data. Complete ophthalmologic exam was performed and secuence of digital photographies. Complications were captured and documented. Statistical analisis was done using t Student, and frequencies for every variable. Results. Congenital ptosis was the most frequent etiology in 15 patients (63%). Out of adquired neurogenic ptosis, nine cases (65.5%). Surgical procedure was performed in 14 patients before ten years of age (58.34%). Out of 31 eyelids, 28 were statistically significant with a good result (90.3%), three cases with regular (9.7%) and none with total fail. Most frequent complication was exposure queratitis in five cases (16.1%). There was statistic significance between abscence of Bell's phenomenon and exposure queratitis. Conclusions. Good result was found in 90% of the patients who frontalis suspension with silicon was done. Temporal exposure queratitis was the most frequent complication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
