- Abstract:
Chapter 2 of the book "Heroin and Other Opiates: Poppies' Perilous Children" is presented. It discusses the history of opioids. Based on the 1839 letter of Lin Tse-hsu of China to Great Britain's Queen Victoria, the barbarians who smuggle opium in China only care to profit themselves. The first mention of opium was in Greece, as proven by the writings of philosopher Theophrastus and author Homer. The beginning of opioid use in western Asia was when the Chinese discovered that the effects of the drug were more powerful if the flower was dried and smoked.
