This article examines developments in the reconstruction and stabilization of Iraq following the U.S. led Iraq War. In 2007, the U.S. began a 'surge' of troops into major cities in order to lower violence and allow political and civil entities to develop. While General David Petraeus led the surge, Ambassador Ryan Crocker tried to bring various political factions together. The author reviews opposition to the surge by the Democratic party and liberal opponents of the war and claims they refuse to acknowledge its success.
