    • Abstract:
This article reports on predatory animals and their relationships with humans in settled areas. The article discusses human interactions with North American mammals such as cougars, grizzly bears, wolves, and coyotes, describing hunting and endangered species policy and legislation. Habitat fragmentation and loss have increased encounters between people and these animals, which may require changes in attitudes and management related to them. Information is also provided on state laws in Oregon, mathematical modeling, non-lethal control, and how predators affect livestock.
