    • Abstract:
The author reflects on the sixteenth-century Dutch painting called "Hunters in the Snow," by Pieter Bruegel. He notes the marketing employed by museums and galleries to sell Christmas cards with winter scenes of old-master paintings on them and offers Bruegel's painting as one example. He explains the technique used by Bruegel as one inspired by his friend, geographer Abraham Ortelius, as a different way of envisioning the world and presents an in-depth examination of the painting.
