    • Abstract:
The country music trio the Dixie Chicks and their lead singer, Natalie Maines, have been sued for defamation by the stepfather of a boy who was killed in a 1993 attack, The Associated Press reported. Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of Steve Branch, one of three 8-year-old boys who were brutally killed in West Memphis, Ark., in May 1993, filed the lawsuit, with emphasis on Ms. Maines. In 2007, Ms. Maines attended a rally for the men convicted of the attack, known as the West Memphis Three, and said that they were innocent and that evidence implicated Mr. Hobbs; a letter making similar assertions appeared on the dixiechicks.com Web site. Mr. Hobbs has said the charges are false and seeks compensatory and punitive damages. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
